It will be possible to rearrange the order of kanban boards?

Hi there,

As I already told in another post, I have been an enthusiastic user of tenzu since its take-off. Congratulations for this nice project !

I wonder if its going to be possible to rearrange kanban boards inside each project. In fact, I am using kanban boards as if they were cycles, but when I created my board, I did’nt follow the order that I want, so they look a little bit confusing :

  • Board 2. Design UX
  • Board 1. Research UX
  • Board 3. Design UI
  • Board 4. Implementation

It would be really nice — and I hope that also relatively simple and really really valuable — to make it possible to rearrange the order of the kanban boards.

Last but not least, I wonder if Biru team —or any early adopters— could be sharing on the forum some tips on how to use tenzu today the best way…

Regards !

Hi @design-and-research ,

Kanban boards already have an order field so, ultimately, yes, you will be able to reorder them. But for now, nor the API nor the UI has been made for that so only the order of creation matters.
You could fix this by cheating with renaming the kanban boards to “change the order”, but if you already have different statuses and lot of stories in each, that could be a lot of work.

If that is the case:

  • If you are self-hosted and have the knowledge for that, you can tweak the order column of the “workflows_workflow” table (that’s the table used for the kanban boards) directly in your database
  • If you’re using the SaaS, as thank you for being an early adopter, we could exceptionally do this for you (no promise on the when though)

About your second question: it’s a really hard one!
We are still learning every day about the difference between how we imagined Tenzu would be used, and how users actually use it. Mostly, what we imagined was close to how, I think, you are using it: having different kanban boards, one dedicated to each workflow or team, and having a story starting in one kanban moving to another for a new lifecyle; the specific process depending on each organisation.
In our case, we also have a specific kanban boards for tracking issues.

In time, we plan to provide functional documentation with guidance for some use cases, but it’s still too early for that.

But, like you, we would be very interested to hear more feedback from early adopters!

I am using Tenzu as SAAS. I really appreciate your offer but my question is more related to a feeling, not to a punctual need. I think that if I want to be fully operational in Tenzu —and considering that I have a limited knowledge of agile theories and methodologies— I will need to easily change my board’s order.

Whatever, it’s interesting to see your evolution on your own. Wishing you a nice 2026
